All the games that you see that have been covered by the media are getting their time in the sun, while these games, are just slipping under the radar. Maybe they don't want to release any screens or videos because they don't want to create hype then something might go wrong and the game is done. Or maybe they are just trying to get some media out and are just struggling. Or maybe they've been put into the trash can and we don't know yet..
Later on, we will have more "coverage" of what some games that are barely slipping under the radar and haven't released any media in a long time.
Interstellar Marines
Zero Point Software
Interstellar Marines is supposed to release next year but the last update they've had was in May (2006). There hasn't been any sort of news released since then. Here's quite a bit of information on the game:
"At the dawn of the 22nd century, man’s lust for resources has taken him beyond Earth and into space. This new frontier has brought new challenges and opportunities, dangers and rewards, and out there, in the dark, awaits the ultimate discovery: another sentient species.
A next generation FPS, INTERSTELLAR MARINES puts the player in the role of an Interstellar Marine soldier and lets him experience the thrill of a tour of duty in outer space where his decisions can affect the future of mankind.
INTERSTELLAR MARINES is an AAA, FPS, Sci-fi, action and adventure game with an original and unpredictable storyline featuring single and cooperative gameplay, with heavy focus on realism. It is a trilogy, with a target audience that is estimated to be 17+ and aimed at the next generation PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 platforms. It is intended to utilize Epic Games “Unreal Engine 3” technology.
Key features
• Singleplayer or up to four players cooperative • Custom game modes featuring arcade, RPG and tactical elements • Captivating storyline with heavy focus on realism • Advanced weapons simulation • Randomized and non-linear gameplay • Character growth and specialization • Fully interactive environments
INTERSTELLAR MARINES combines its unique features with the highest quality in visuals and animation to deliver an experience unlike any other: a serious, well-researched science fiction FPS that gives a realistic vision of what “first contact” might be like."
Harker
The Collective
Harker, even though it's releasing early 2008, the developers have only released 5 screenshots. Not even 1 video! Let me tell you though, the screenshots look amazing. The Collective, creators of Marc Echoe's Getting Up: Content Under Pressure, and The Da Vinci Code have released a little tad bit of info though:
"Harker, inspired by the classic horror novel, "Dracula", is set to take the survival horror genre in a new and much more personal direction.
In the game, players take on the role of a very different Jonathan Harker - hardened and ruthless - who is on a very personal mission to destroy all vampires after his beloved Mina falls prey to Dracula. Gameplay involves a combination of hunting these ferocious killers through tracking and exploration, along with an up-close and personal combat system, brutally-effective in the execution of the vampires; using a variety of weapons and environmental factors.
Harker will bring to life the underbelly of the 18th Century World, taking players into diverse locations, areas never explored in history books, in a gritty, realistic art style that will fully immerse players in their environments. The game also features an incredible roster of blood-thirsty, shape-shifting vampires each with their own savage abilities, sometimes hiding in plain sight; the player may never know just how close they are."
Crossfire
N/A
Crossfire, releasing next year has only been announced with 1 screenshot. One. Not even any videos. If they want to get some people to get this game, you'd think they would at least release an announcement video. Anyway, they did release some info though:
"In Crossfire, you become a member of an elite team of two deniable agents hired by the government to finish the job and disappear before they are ever identified. This innovative new two-player co-op FPS allows you to seamlessly switch between the two members of the team - taking out targets and destroying everything in their path in fully destructible environments. Become one with our two covert field operatives - experts in weapons and military tactics - and lay down cover fire, explore different paths, create distractions, or pin down the enemy in a deadly crossfire."
In Conclusion, While these games get no attention at all and are being developed almost to secret that we only get one screenshot, we surrond ourselves with the games that are getting lots of attention. The games that are getting all the attention (Halo 3, MGS 4, GRAW 2, BioShock, etc.) will most likley overcome these little games that are getting soo little attention that they've released no video at all and only 1-5 screenshots because we don't know anything abuot these games yet. The only bad part of releasing a lot of screenshots, videos etc. will be anticipation. Lots of people are going to buy your game and you don't want to get all the attention and then when the game releases, it's bad. (Just ask about Halo 2). So, maybe you'll remember reading this when these games come out, think twice about it, you never know, they might be good..
