Goodbye G4 (NBC Axes the Network for Rebranding)

Say goodbye to the G4 you’ve come to know and love. The gamer network is getting a makeover and rebranding by parent company NBC Universal. The new G4 is going to move away from the geeky gamer demo, and gear itself toward an older, more hip GQ sort of crowd. The new channel is likely to launch next year.

Sounds like they’re gearing their programs toward people who are more established in their careers and make more money. This would entice bigger advertisers and more advertising dollars. Everybody likes more money (except for that baby in those Jimmy Fallon Capitol One commercials).

G4 is currently known for its pop-culture programming like “Attack of the Show!” and “American Ninja Warrior,” but what will the new G4 have in store?

so does this mean it will have more "adult" programing or it will be something different all together? i don't watch g4, but i do have their app on my kindle and i do enjoy their previews and such on the app.

Anything Gaming on the Channel is Dead, It seems it will be more like SpikeTV.

We've heard that G4's major video-game and geek-culture shows, including X-Play and Attack of the Show will be cancelled today by the network. A source close to the situation says that it's not clear if the shows will last through the year or be cancelled immediately. The rumor is that the network will shift to something more like an "Esquire" or "GQ" channel. This aligns with reports that NBC Universal was looking to rebrand the channel as alifestyle network focused on "the modern male."

G4's two longest-running and defining series, Attack of the Show! and X-Play, will be ending their run at the end of 2012. Both shows will include original episodes through the end of the year, and will look back at theirmost memorable moments as we lead up to their final episodes. Attack of the Show! debuted March 28, 2005 and from the start was the ultimate guide to everything cool and new in the world of technology, web culture, gaming and pop culture. X-Play made its debut almost two years earlier, on April 28, 2003 (on G4's previous incarnation: TechTV), and immediately became the go-to destination for young men seeking the latest video game news, honest reviews, hands-on demos and exclusive video game trailers and footage. The year-end celebration will take you back through highlights of these landmark shows' history, including its exclusive live-from-the-floor coverage of San Diego Comic-Con and E3. They Should have let X-Play & AOTS Remain. It seems like their trying to do exactly what SpikeTV is Currently Doing. SpikeTV still have Gaming Programming.

Don't know what Kindle store has. I only use Apple's App Store. It has everything from IGN to Gamespot to Blogs like Kotaku & Joystiq.
