Deception is the sixth installment in the fighting game series (not counting ultimate or trilogy). This time the new threat is the Dragon King. The forces of good must face there greatest challenge yet.
You do have three fighting styles per character and one of them being their weapon style. You only have multi-tiered parts in most levels (meaning can only knock your character off once to another section and after that, that’s it).Sadly though, you do not have the variety to branch off into multiple combos at your own discretion, like you can in Tekken or DOA. While you are on the ground you can not really do much to defend yourself and also there are a few characters that have infinites (combos you can keep doing over and over again making it just about impossible to break-free from). The reversals are lame, you just knock the opponent back and you only have the ability to do it 3 times per. match I believe. Animation's are choppy and slow at time, and sometimes you do not have a lot of room to recover from an attack. A nice and not so nice addition is death traps. They are basically ring-outs in a sense, but can be pulled off as easily as a light punch or kick, if the opponent is in the red zone of the death trap.
You have the normal combat that you can go through with each character to find out their ending in game. You do have knoquest, if you can get over the poor gameplay and bad voice acting and not a lot of variety, where you can unlock certain things. Also you have the mini-games, chess and puzzle kombat, which can be fun but also in the end can get boring. Most importantly you have ONLINE which is a very nice addition to Mortal Kombat. The character graphics are pretty good, but yet at times they seem to have a clayish look to them. The graphics are sub-par to those of Tekkens, but it is a nice effort. The backgrounds do not appear as polished as in Deadly Alliance either. The sound for the overall game seems to be fine. The voices in those areas were pretty well done. No real complaints there. But for Konquest the voicing was horrendous.
